Are your beliefs holding you back?

By: Delaney Tosh

I had the opportunity to talk with many business owners during my forays into the Holiday networking scene. All of them had promising business ventures on the go, some with exciting opportunities as evidenced by investor queries and lots of customers with more prospects waiting in the wings.

Exciting indeed, however, none was satisfied with the state of his or her business. When I asked how they were going to follow up on these exciting opportunities, they all, every single one of them, gave me one of two answers: "I'm so busy I don't have time to answer the phone and take on new clients," or "If we grew any more, the business would get out of our control".

Their dissatisfaction is borne out of the belief that growth equals "overwhelm." This belief seems justified because without adequate systematization they are burdened by the details of running the business - so they conclude that more growth will mean more burden. I also noticed that many of these business owners are attached to the concept of "going it alone".

Prior to embarking on our new venture, The Surge Strategies Group Inc., Bert Zethof and I both realized we had to discard the belief that we have only a limited capacity to grow a business. Before, we had believed that building a world class business would mean becoming slaves to the work. But this does not have to be true; we can have both a successful business and a balanced life.

I simply had to let go of the belief that there just isn't enough of me to go around and therefore, I can't build the size of business I dream of. I also had to let go of the belief that no one could do it as well I could. I realized that with adequate visioning and planning, the systems and leadership capacity could be developed to enable a business to grow exponentially and give me the time I need to play.

Perhaps that is the lesson; that big dreams cannot be achieved working alone and cannot be achieved when old belief patterns are blocking innovative strategies. There is an abundance of help for people who are passionately committed to a worthwhile dream. It's a matter of letting go so others can be let in. Drawing on new perspectives about yourself and your business potential will create new opportunities for you to make the dream a reality.

As The Surge Group, we aim to help you break down the walls that are in your way to success. Check us out at a free introductory workshop - the next one is Thursday, January 10th.
