Business Innovator Labsâ„¢
Business Innovator Labsâ„¢ provide a safe and stimulating space with supports where business owners can work ON their business (and themselves) instead of IN their business and take their business to the next level of success.
The Labs help business owners work through their business challenges by integrating leadership development, innovation, and strategic planning with built in action planning and accountability support. We work along three tracks:
1. Business performance;
2. Leadership development; and
3. Time management.
The Labs provide a catalytic experience for change enabling participants to enjoy improved business results, more freedom and balance, and greater personal impact and growth in an environment structured to be flexibly responsive to each participants' unique journey. Business owners can:
• Clarify and achieve business goals and life dreams
• Get "unstuck", be re-invigorated, and make the most of personal capacities
• Break through and realize the company's true potential for sustainable high-performance
• Gain a sense of control and freedom with your business and personal life
• Engage authentically in your unique journey, doing what you love in the way you love
• Live and leave a legacy for a better world
As participants in the program, you will:
· Reflect, plan and act on where you want to take your business
· Assess and improve your business model
· Systematically assess and develop action plans around the centres of management attention: strategy, finance, marketing, HR, operations, business systems, and lead generation and conversion
· Identify and develop critical business systems that deliver the desired customer value (accounting, production, CRM, etc) and free up your time to focus on the strategic
· Develop the handful of critically important success measures (i.e. not just financial but a balanced scorecard)
· Plan to build the company’s infrastructure that is needed to support growth (attracting and retaining employees, management/ownership succession, organization structure, delegating, etc.)
· Learn through interaction with the CEO peers in the group and the facilitator/coach and from best practices
· Explore your leadership role: Are you sabotaging yourself? What are your strengths and how can they be leveraged?
· Discover why you might be stuck and what needs to happen to break through your sticking point
· Avoid the stress of the illusive search for work-life balance by learning how to focus on what’s important in life and making the best use of the limited resource of time (vs. compartmentalizing work and trying to touch all the bases)
What makes Business Innovator Labs™ unique is the focus on ACTION through a plan, do, assess progress loop. The beginning of each session is focused on progress assessment and accountability. The end of each session is focused on prioritizing action plans and declaring/anchoring intentions to implement. This is where our coaching experience is put to good use. The Labs are not a course or a seminar – they are an interactive learning experience where the participants are accountable for following through on action plans.
There are lots of experts, courses and seminars in the marketplace on the technical aspects of developing a business (e.g. how to raise venture capital, how to develop a marketing plan, how to interview job candidates), but our Labs take a more comprehensive approach to the challenges of leading a business. Many venture capitalists say that a key criterion for assessing whether to invest is the quality of the management team, in other words, it’s the complicated set of skills, knowledge and talents of the leaders that make the difference; it’s not just about the technology or product. We agree, so we make the business owner-operator and his or her challenges our program’s focus.
Yet we are not like the typical executive development program: we work with our clients in the context of their business. Both the realities of the business and the role of the leader to lead the business to success are in the curriculum. So we ask that only business owners who are ready to take a hard look at themselves and have a willingness to change should consider registering.
The first Lab was successfully launched in Victoria BC on March 6, 2008, with eight participants from a variety of industries.
